Reason / Purpose for Carraque Widows
The thought process behind developing Carraque Widows came from the lack of support and encouragement for widows of color to gather and express everyday issues or concerns in facing this newly single life.  Issues include parenting, finances, housing, health care and careers just to name a few.

Carraque Widows is designed to help us along in the process of grieving and healing; a place for expression without being judged or demeaned.  Carraque Widows is a place where its members can feel comfortable and confident in knowing their expressions of grief during this tragic and life changing event in their lives will not be ridiculed or frowned upon.  We are all from different walks and avenues of life and all stories and situations hold its own uniqueness.

History of Carraque Widows and it's Founder
As a young woman, full of life and blessed with the love of a wonderful, God-fearing man, I never imagined at 33 years of age, I would have to bury him.  My children at the time of my husband's death were 3 and 1 year old.  How could this be?  How could this happen?  What I am supposed to do without my soul mate?  How I am supposed to raise two boys on my own?  He promised me forever and how can 5 years of marriage be forever?  These were some questions that I asked myself when my husband first died.

After looking and becoming a member of a variety of support groups, I saw there was a need for support for minority widows, hence to idea of Carraque Widows (Carraque Widows).  Established in early 2008, Carraque Widows was established to be a place of collaboration for those who had the daunting task of burying their spouse/significant other.  Minorities are faced with so many other societal problems, Carraque Widows is a great starting point for communicating with others chocolate woman who are walking in the same shoes.

Another passion of Carraque Widows is to show the world despite the negative images of men of color portrayed in the media; there are certainly more positive examples of stand up Carraque Men. These men were doing the right things in life, like taking care of their children and loving their wives.  It is important that these wonderful men are remembered and honored for who they were and what they meant to their families.  These men were husbands, fathers, protectors and comforters giving all they had and doing what God ordained them to do until He called them to enter the kingdom.  This is a dwelling to honor, reverence, and uphold these wonderful men who were taken from our lives.
